Brief summary describing the background and objectives of the trial deep transverse friction massage (DFM)has long been reported to be effective in treatment of some tendonopathies. The objective of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of DFM for treatment of plantar fasciitis

STUDY DESIGN
Intervention assignment Allocation to intervention If randomised, describe how the allocation sequence was generated Describe how the allocation sequence/code was concealed from the person allocating the participants to the intervention arms Masking If masking / blinding was used
Parallel: different groups receive different interventions at same time during study Randomised Simple randomization using a randomization table created by a computer software program Allocation was determined by the holder of the sequence who is situated off site Open-label(Masking Not Used)
INTERVENTIONS
Intervention type Intervention name Dose Duration Intervention description Group size Nature of control
Experimental Group deep transverse friction massage 10 minutes session every other day seven sessions through two weeks with the reinforced thumb, a friction massage was applied transversely across the plantar fascia from proximal to distal on the most tender point in a rate of about 2 to 3 cycles per second within the patient's tolerance. this procedure was done by a well trained nurse in the physiotherapy unit. 30
Control Group local steroid injection 40mg triamcinolone acetonide/1ml. plus lidocaine 1%/ 1ml. once at the beginning of the study Using the blind medial approach towards the medial calcaneal tubercle, 40mg triamcinolone acetonide/1ml. plus lidocaine 1%/ 1ml. locally injected with 1.5 inch 23 gauge needle in complete aseptic condition. 30 Active-Treatment of Control Group
