Efficacy of kinesio tape added to lumbar stabilization exercises on adult patients with mechanical low back pain: a randomized blinded clinical trial |
Brief summary describing the background
and objectives of the trial
|
Chronic mechanical LBP is the most common complaint of the working-age population. In addition to human suffering, it causes a substantial economic burden due to the wide use of medical services and absence from work. Spinal segmental stabilization exercises were developed with the aim of correcting the transversus abdominis contraction delay and also to recover the activation of lumbar multifidus muscle. It has also been referred as core strengthening, motor control training, and dynamic stabilization . This motor control approach focuses on an isolated cocontraction of such muscles while keeping the lumbar spine in a neutral position. Although the full mechanism of action of KT has yet to be fully understood, it has successfully been applied in a number of clinical conditions. It appears to provide pain relief and increase cervical range of motion (ROM) in patients with acute whiplash. Therefore, this study was conducted aiming to determine the effect of adding KT to lumbar stabilizing exercises (LSE) in cases of chronic mechanical LBP, and to compare its efficacy with the effect of LSE only as one of the published programs in management of LBP. |
