TRIAL DESCRIPTION
Public title The transverse skin creases crossing the lumbar interspinous spaces can guide spinal anesthesia in obese patients
Official scientific title The transverse skin creases crossing the lumbar interspinous spaces can guide spinal anesthesia in obese patients
Brief summary describing the background and objectives of the trial Identifying the midline in obese patients during central neuraxial blockade can be challenging. Recently, the use of ultrasound imaging has become more popular in identifying vertebral structures at high resolution and locating an accurate needle insertion point during regional anesthesia. A simple sign had been observed in obese patients which is the lumbar transverse skin creases which are so evident in these categories of patients. The lumbar transverse creases were used as a guide to the interspinous spaces. The aim of the work is to compare the use of ultrasound versus lumbar transverse skin crease in the identification of the interspinous space in obese patients.

OUTCOMES
Type of outcome Outcome Timepoint(s) at which outcome measured
Primary Outcome The time taken from the start of ultrasound or lumbar crease till we get CSF flow Time from we put the probe on the back or identifying the lumbar crease till the CSF is got
Primary Outcome Number of attempts till we get CSF flow throughout the procedure
Secondary Outcome spinal deformities which make the identification of the interspinous space difficult Once at the time of the ultrasound to detect sonoanatomy of the back
Primary Outcome Number of patients with CSF flow from first attempt skin puncture Start of the procedure
Secondary Outcome Number of redirection of spinal needle till CSF flow Start of the procedure
Secondary Outcome Number of patients with deviated spines from the midline Start of the procedure
