Official scientific title Effectiveness of Malaria Free Zone Program on the Knowledge and Attitude of Malaria Prevention Among University Students in Conakry, Guinea
Brief summary describing the background and objectives of the trial The “We control malaria” program will be modified into “Malaria Free Zone” program in this study. About the “We control malaria” program, it was developed by the Catholic Relief Services (CRS) which is an East Africa Regional Office and Ethiopia Country Office. The program sessions were conducted in Addis Ababa which is a city in Ethiopia. According to the Catholic Relief Services (CRS), this program is to empower the community to take ownership and responsibility for their malaria problem. The role of this program is to use six participatory activities around malaria as a whole package of activities as the participants will learn to understand malaria prevention. The objective of the “We control malaria” program is to assist the community in discussing about malaria as well as developing ways to prevent and control the disease. This research will adapt the program and call it “Malaria Free Zone”. Therefore, this study will be adapting the “We control malaria” program and it will be changed into “Malaria Free Zone”. The aim of the “Malaria Free Zone” program is to use the Health Belief Model (HBM) to enhance university students' knowledge and attitude towards malaria prevention in Conakry, Guinea. The HBM has five constructs; including; perceived susceptibility, perceived severity, perceived barriers, perceived benefits and perceived self-efficacy. The conceptual framework for this research will be using the Health Belief Model (HBM) to assess the effectiveness of the health education program in improving the knowledge and attitude on malaria prevention among university students in Conakry, Guinea.
