TRIAL DESCRIPTION
Public title EFFECTS OF A HEALTH EDUCATIONAL INTERVENTION ON MALARIA PREVENTIVE BEHAVIOUR AND ADVERSE PREGNANCY OUTCOMES AMONG PREGNANT WOMEN IN A SECONDARY-LEVEL
Official scientific title EFFECTS OF A HEALTH EDUCATIONAL INTERVENTION ON MALARIA PREVENTIVE BEHAVIOUR AND ADVERSE PREGNANCY OUTCOMES AMONG PREGNANT WOMEN IN A SECONDARY-LEVEL HEALTH CENTRE IN MAIDUGURI, BORNO STATE, NIGERIA
Brief summary describing the background and objectives of the trial Malaria in pregnancy remains a serious public health problem in sub-Saharan Africa. It is also associated with serious consequences which include maternal and neonatal mortality; maternal anaemia; abortion; low birth weight, and others. The World Health Organisation (WHO) recommends for pregnant women in these endemic areas, the use of Insecticide Treated Nets (ITN) and Intermittent Preventive Treatment with Sulphadoxime-Pyrimethamine (IPT-SP). Despite the high prevalence of malaria among pregnant women in Maiduguri and its serious consequences, most of them do not adhere to these prescribed measures. The aim of this study is to develop, implement and assess the effects of a health education on these malaria preventive behaviours and adverse pregnancy outcomes among pregnant women in Maiduguri.

Parallel: different groups receive different interventions at same time during study Randomised Permuted block randomisation. Block sizes would be equal (4 each containing 2 intervention and 2 controls) Different persons would generate the sequnce from the person to allocate the sequence. It would be handed to the person allocating in sealed opaque envelopes Masking/blinding used Care giver/Provider,Outcome Assessors,Participants
