TRIAL DESCRIPTION
Public title Ending green hunger and under-five malnutrition through government-led health development army (HDA): A study protocol for cluster-randomized community effectiveness hybrid type III trial (RCT)
Official scientific title Ending green hunger and under-five malnutrition through government-led health development army (HDA): A study protocol for cluster-randomized community effectiveness hybrid type III trial (RCT)
Brief summary describing the background and objectives of the trial Introduction: Malnutrition, in all its forms, is a major public health problem among under-five children in low-income settings, including Ethiopia. Despite relentless efforts, the problem has continued to be a major public health concern. On the other hand, there has been insufficient effort to fully utilize existing community structures, such as the Health Development Army (HDA), to address the problem. Hence, the present implementation study aims to test and validate the effectiveness of specially trained HDAs, in the prevention, and referral of acutely malnourished children in Gedeo, southern Ethiopia.

STUDY DESIGN
Intervention assignment Allocation to intervention If randomised, describe how the allocation sequence was generated Describe how the allocation sequence/code was concealed from the person allocating the participants to the intervention arms Masking If masking / blinding was used
Parallel: different groups receive different interventions at same time during study Randomised Simple randomization using a randomization table created by a computer software program Allocation was determined by the holder of the sequence who is situated off site Open-label(Masking Not Used)
