TRIAL DESCRIPTION
Public title Beneficial Effect of Intradialytic Electrical Muscle Stimulation in Hemodialysis Patients
Official scientific title Neuromusclar fatigue and hemodynamics responses to physical exercise in patients undergoing dialysis therapy: Effects of Intradialytic Electrical Muscle Stimulation training
Brief summary describing the background and objectives of the trial hemodialysis (HD) patients cannot perform self-administered exercise training for their muscle wasting, weakness, and sarcopenia. Electrical muscle stimulation (EMS) has the advantages of easy application, and minimal risks for these patients. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of intradialytic EMS on. neuromusclar fatigue and hemodynamics responses to physical exercise.

STUDY DESIGN
Intervention assignment Allocation to intervention If randomised, describe how the allocation sequence was generated Describe how the allocation sequence/code was concealed from the person allocating the participants to the intervention arms Masking If masking / blinding was used
Crossover: all participants receive all interventions in different sequence during study Randomised Simple randomization using a randomization table created by a computer software program Numbered containers Open-label(Masking Not Used)
INTERVENTIONS
Intervention type Intervention name Dose Duration Intervention description Group size Nature of control
Experimental Group Electrical Muscle Stimulation Traning 12 weeks Twenty-four patients undergoing dialysis therapy (HD) will be randomly assigned to either the (EMS) group or the control (no training) group, . The EMS group will receive intradialytic EMS over an 12-week period. Measurement of isometric knee extensor strength , evaluation of the quadriceps cross-sectional area, the Timed Up & Go Test for physical function assessment, and hemodynamics responses (muscular and cerebral) during incremental exercise will be performed before and after the intervention period. 12
Control Group No intervention 12 weeks No intervention 12 Active-Treatment of Control Group

OUTCOMES
Type of outcome Outcome Timepoint(s) at which outcome measured
Primary Outcome Neuromuscular function of the quadriceps such maximal voluntary isometric contraction (MVC), peripheral fatigue (quadriceps resting twitch force, Qtw,pot) and central fatigue (voluntary activation, VA). Also, cerebral and muscular hemodynamic response, such as oxyhemoglobin (∆O2Hb), deoxyhemoglobin (∆HHb), and total hemoglobin (∆THb) in the prefrontal cortex and in the vastus lateralis muscle. Druing physical exercise task before and follwoing the intervention period
Secondary Outcome Quadriceps Muscle volume , Body Composition Before and following the intervention period
