TRIAL DESCRIPTION
Public title Effect of small dose Ketamine on Deep Sedation for Endoscopy Patients
Official scientific title Evaluation of Paradoxical Effect of Small Dose Ketamine as Adjuvant in Deep ‎‎‎Sedation for Endoscopy Patients: Prospective Randomized Trial
Brief summary describing the background and objectives of the trial Some studies explored the paradoxical effect of a small dose of Ketamine in accelerating recovery from anesthesia. Our study aims to test this finding in the setting of gastrointestinal ‎endoscopies where subanesthetic doses of Ketamine are frequently used in sedation ‎of upper gastrointestinal and colonoscopic endoscopies.‎

STUDY DESIGN
Intervention assignment Allocation to intervention If randomised, describe how the allocation sequence was generated Describe how the allocation sequence/code was concealed from the person allocating the participants to the intervention arms Masking If masking / blinding was used
Parallel: different groups receive different interventions at same time during study Randomised Simple randomization using a randomization table created by a computer software program Sealed opaque envelopes Masking/blinding used Care giver/Provider
INTERVENTIONS
Intervention type Intervention name Dose Duration Intervention description Group size Nature of control
Experimental Group Group PK a single dose of Ketamine (0.1 mg/kg) at the beginning of the procedure ‎ A single shot over 10 - 20 seconds, given once a single intravenous dose of Ketamine preoperatively 77
Control Group Group P Saline 0.05 ml/kg once at the beginning of the procedure A single shot over 10 - 20 seconds, given once a single intravenous dose of saline preoperatively 77 Placebo
