TRIAL DESCRIPTION
Public title passive smoking and executive functions in children
Official scientific title Impact of passive smoking on executive and pulmonary functions in school aged children
Brief summary describing the background and objectives of the trial Passive smoking is the leading preventable cause of many issues in children which has also been related to a wide range of physical, respiratory, and mental health constraints in children. This study aims to investigate the effect of passive smoking on executive and pulmonary functions in school-aged children. A cross-sectional study will carry out on school-aged children , their ages will range between 8–12 years.executive functions were evaluated using the Tower of Hanoi, Eriksen flanker test, Stroop colored word test, Trail-making test part A, and Trail-making test part B. Pulmonary functions included (forced vital capacity (FVC), forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1), peak expiratory flow rate (PEFR), and FEV1/FVC were measured by the spirometer. There is now emerging evidence that intelligence and mental health involved in the inter-relationship between smoking and neurodevelopment and PS negatively impact behavior, attention, physical function, and cognition. A link between PS with cognitive and behavioral problems among children such as attention problems, cognitive and intellectual deficits were reported. As neurobehavioral tests were described as reliable and valid indicators of brain function and dysfunction and can discriminate group differences caused by chemical exposure so it can reflect early and subclinical effects of PS on childrenIdentification of the risks of passive smoking on children's mental and physical health is crucial because exposure to passive smoking among children is widespread throughout the world and continues to be a significant public health problem. It is recommended to increase awareness of society to protect the emerging generation from the hazards of passive smoking and prevent it in every possible way for the future of our home as passive smoking can affect the functions of the brain and lungs and lead to motor and mental problems so the purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of passive smoking
