TRIAL DESCRIPTION
Public title Comparison of Misoprostol With Foley's Catheter Versus Misoprostol Alone for Induction of Labour
Official scientific title Comparison of Misoprostol plus Foley's Catheter versus Misoprostol Alone For Induction Of Labour: A Randomized Controlled Trial In The Gambia
Brief summary describing the background and objectives of the trial Induction of labour (IOL) is one of the common obstetrics interventions, and it is defined as the artificial stimulation or initiation of labour, after the age of viability and before the onset of spontaneous labour, which will lead to uterine contractions and alteration in cervix in order to facilitate vaginal delivery. It is usually performed when the benefit of delivery of the baby surpasses the risk of waiting for spontaneous labour and there are no contraindications to vaginal delivery. OBJECTIVES: 1. To describe the sociodemographic characteristics of patients scheduled for induction of labour 2. To determine the induction delivery interval in each group: the group A (misoprostol only) and group B (combined misoprostol plus foley catheter) 3. To compare the induction to delivery interval between the group A (misoprostol only) and group B (combined misoprostol and foley catheter) 4. To compare the incidence of the common complications risk between those who used misoprostol alone or misoprostol and foleys catheter for induction of labour

STUDY DESIGN
Intervention assignment Allocation to intervention If randomised, describe how the allocation sequence was generated Describe how the allocation sequence/code was concealed from the person allocating the participants to the intervention arms Masking If masking / blinding was used
Parallel: different groups receive different interventions at same time during study Randomised Simple randomization using a randomization table created by a computer software program Sealed opaque envelopes Open-label(Masking Not Used)
