Public title Saving Brains from Malnutrition
Official scientific title SAVING BRAINS FROM MALNUTRITION: IMPLEMENTATION OF EVIDENCE-BASED NUTRITIONAL SUPPLEMENTATION AND PSYCHOSOCIAL STIMULATION PROGRAMME FOR PREGNANT AND LACTATING WOMEN AND THEIR INFANTS POST WEANING, TO IMPROVE COGNITION AND BEHAVIOURAL REGULATION TO DELIVER BETTER SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC PROSPECTS LATER IN LIFE
Brief summary describing the background and objectives of the trial This is an acceptability of standard and enhanced Small Quantity Lipid-based Nutrient supplements (SQ LNS/eSQ LNS) in addition to 1g Omega 3 Fatty Acids by Ghanaian women and their infants. Objectives 1. To assess the acceptability and adherence to nutrient supplementation with micronutrient supplements for 6 weeks among n=120 pregnant and lactating women and n=60 month old offspring post weaning. 2. assess the feasibility of measuring plasma and red cell membrane concentrations of polyunsaturated fatty acids among pregnant and lactating mothers and6 month old infants post weaning. 3. To assess the feasibility of using computerised eye tracking to asses neurocognition in 40 children, aged 18 months 4. To modify the psychosocial stimulation programme for the Ghanaian setting and train staff in its application
