TRIAL DESCRIPTION
Public title Nutrition education intervention with control group among hypertensive patients
Official scientific title Effectiveness of a Nutrition Education Intervention Based on Pender’s Health Promotion Model in Controlling Blood Pressure Level Among Hypertensive Patients: An Interventional Study with Control Group
Brief summary describing the background and objectives of the trial Hypertension is a major public health problem associated with increased risk of cardiovascular diseases. Lifestyle modification, particularly nutrition education, plays a crucial role in blood pressure control. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a nutrition education intervention based on Pender’s Health Promotion Model in improving blood pressure levels among hypertensive patients. A controlled interventional study (quasi-experimental pre–post design) was conducted, where participants were assigned to either an intervention group receiving structured nutrition education or a control group receiving standard care. The primary outcome included lifestyle behavior changes, while the secondary outcome was the change in blood pressure levels. The findings support the integration of theory-based educational interventions into hypertension management, where the nutrition educational intervention was associated with a significant decrease in systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure among the intervention group as compared to the control group.

INTERVENTIONS
Intervention type Intervention name Dose Duration Intervention description Group size Nature of control
Experimental Group structured nutrition education sessions A total of six educational sessions conducted through power point presentation A brochure was given to each person in the intervention group at the end of the intervention. Sessions conducted over two consecutive weeks (three days each week) and two sessions presented every day for each subgroup. Three subgroups met each day in the first week and two subgroups met each day in the second week. A total of six educational sessions conducted through power point presentation for the 50 participants of the intervention group [which was divided into 5 subgroups (10 participants/each subgroup)] using the following outlines: Healthy eating (30 minutes), social support (15 minutes), physical activity (30 minutes), self efficacy (15 minutes), adherence to medications (20 minutes), and goal setting (20 minutes). A brochure was given to each person in the intervention group at the end of the intervention. 50
Control Group No structured intervention Not applicable Preliminary assessment of each participant at the beginning of the study Reassessment at the end of the study (for both groups after three months of the educational intervention) The control group received the routine care and the same brochure was given to each person in the control group but at the end of the study. 50 Active-Treatment of Control Group
