TRIAL DESCRIPTION
Public title Protocol: EXPD-101-201 - A Study to Learn More About How Well a Medicine Called EXPD-101 Works and How Safe it is in Participants with the Long Term Lung Disease, COPD
Official scientific title Protocol: EXPD-101-201 - A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel arm, 52-week study to assess efficacy, safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics of two doses of EXPD-101 in participants with COPD (Navigator)
Brief summary describing the background and objectives of the trial COPD is an abbreviation for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. It is a common lung disease causing breathing problems because air does not flow well. The most common symptoms of COPD are difficulty breathing, chronic cough (sometimes with phlegm), and feeling tired. In COPD, certain white blood cells, called neutrophils, release substances that damage the lungs, leading to swelling, thick mucus, and flare ups of symptoms. Because these harmful substances increase during flare ups, medicines that block them may help better control COPD. EXPD-101 is a potential medicine that may reduce the levels of these harmful substances. This study will assess how well EXPD-101 works, how safe it is, how well participants tolerate it, and how it moves through the body when given at 2 different doses over 52 weeks. Primary Objectives: 1. To look at how well EXPD-101 works compared with a placebo by looking at the number of medium and severe flare-ups of COPD over 52 weeks of taking study medicine. 2. To look at how safe EXPD-101 is and how well participants tolerate it compared with a placebo.
