TRIAL DESCRIPTION
Public title WPC-RUTF acceptability and effectiveness
Official scientific title Acceptability and effectiveness of Milk Whey protein based Ready-To-Use Therapeutic Food in treatment of severe acute malnutrition in under-five
Brief summary describing the background and objectives of the trial Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) combined with the Community-based Therapeutic Care (CTC) delivery mechanism has had enormous impact on the performances of programmes addressing severe acute malnutrition (SAM). Currently, CTC programmes rely on paste RUTF made with milk powder. The intensive use of milk powder in this RUTF makes it cost-prohibitive. The aim of this study is to assess the acceptability and effectiveness of a RUTF in which milk powder is replaced by whey protein concentrates.
