TRIAL DESCRIPTION
Public title The interventions on marital relationship
Official scientific title Effectiveness of a marital relationship skill training on marital adjustment among married people in Hosanna town, Southwest Ethiopia: A Randomized Control Trial
Brief summary describing the background and objectives of the trial Background: A marital bond is a holy and divinely established covenant and is found to be the greatest source of happiness and well-being. A good quality marital life has numerous benefits and the most accepted event in any social and spiritual aspects of human life (Glenn, 1979). Beginning from early human history, the continuity of the human race has been made possible due to the relation of male and female as a means of procreation (WHO, 2006). Moreover, children living with their married biological parents also claimed to have better physical, emotional, and academic performance (Linacre Q., 2014). Nevertheless, low-quality marriage pose profoundly long-lasting deleterious health, psychological, and socio-economic impacts (Lin IF., et al., 2019). The previous studies were limited to certain segments of society, and there were uncertainties in findings. Thus, it is important to develop and examine the effectiveness of the proposed interventions and offer abreast options. . Individual Participant Data (IPD) Sharing statement All of the individual data collected during the trial period will be coded and entered into SPSS 23 versions shared to in the manner that does not violate the international and National ethical declarations. This data could be in the report such as in tables and figures. The details of entire study protocol that encompasses statistical analysis plan, informed consent form, clinical code and participant randomization and allocation information will also be shared immediately following publication. The metadata will be submitted to the international journal publishers with the manuscript during the process of evaluation for possible publication. The pertinent data analyzed to achieve the study objective will also be shared. We will share the data to anyone who wishes to access.

INTERVENTIONS
Intervention type Intervention name Dose Duration Intervention description Group size Nature of control
Experimental Group Marital relationship skill training Once Five months The proposed intervention in this study is a "Marital relationship skill training intervention" designed to optimize marital relationship among cohort of marital couples. This intervention is planned based on basic facts and assumptions. Conflicts between couples are inevitable and most are functional and managed by educational interventions. From family stress and coping theory, stress is assumed to be normal and disturb the equilibrium that could be maintained by coping. Accordingly, probably this study is the first study in Ethiopia and Africa to address the problems or shortcomings of the earlier studies. We believe that this study is comprehensive and tried to involve all segments of society at large. It is designed to provide new insight into research-based roadmaps of "Marital couples training" that includes the wide-ranging concepts comprehended by considering the spiritual and scientific evidence. The proven theories and models were adapted extensively to make the training sounder. It outlines the basic elements (social, health, legal, and spiritual contexts) of marriage, and dissolution. It is summarized in to four sessions. The first session will encompass "the basics of marriage" the knowledge and understanding of couples on marital life, the meaning of marital union (Bible, Koran, family law), and the benefits of lovely marital life. The second session includes the different “causes and consequences of marital conflict and marital dissolutions. The third session includes the basics of marital life-promoting and conflict resolution skills. That includes, insights into relationship dynamics, principles of commitment and forgiveness. The basics of sensuality and sexuality family politics are also be included in this session. The fourth session includes finalizing the training that encompasses, training evaluation, and certification. This training is estimated to take sixteen hours and ten minutes. 34

OUTCOMES
Type of outcome Outcome Timepoint(s) at which outcome measured
Primary Outcome The primary outcome is marital relationship: The marital relationship that will be examined using the RDAS, a 14-item scale with well-established properties. The marital couple training intervention (MaCoTi) will be an independent variable. There will be two groups, the experimental and control arms. The experimental arm will receive this intervention and the control group will not receive this training. The marital relationship score that will be measured using the RDAS at two time periods, before and after the intervention will be interpreted to reflect the effectiveness of the training intervention. Immediately after the intervention and five months after the intervention
